DATEV MITTELSTANDSINDEX
Hardly any summer revival in the gastronomy sector
The DATEV SME turnover index rose by 1.9 points to 91.9 points in July compared to the previous month, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decline of 1.7 percent. Signs of sales stabilization can be observed in the retail sector in particular. In contrast, sales in the hospitality industry are showing hardly any signs of the usual seasonal summer revival and continue to decline. Turnover in the manufacturing industry continues to fall sharply. Overall, the economic situation in the German SME sector therefore remains tense.
Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the wage index rose by 0.4 points to 115.3 points in July. This corresponds to a nominal wage increase of 4.0% compared to the previous year. Wage and salary growth thus continues to outpace the general price trend and remains a relevant cost factor for companies.
Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the employment index fell by 0.1 points to 101.6 points in July. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decline of 0.3%. While medium-sized companies were still able to increase their employment, micro and small companies continued to record a decline in employment.
